Dundee Hotel Rejected

A Scottish Government Reporter has issued a decision letter that has disappointed the Lomond Group. Mr Ferrie rejected plans for an increased capacity hotel adjacent to Dundee Airport in his letter dated 26th May 2011.

In doing so he agreed and had a “certain degree of sympathy” with the case put forward by the Lomond Group and did recognise the benefits of a hotel at this location along the Riverside in Dundee. However, he did conclude that in the absence of a sequential approach the benefits of the proposals could not be certain.

“Tourism is and remains a valued and strong component of the Scottish economy that has support at Government level. Despite this and the apparent minor alterations to the proposal we are still surprised at the outcomes of the appeal” said the Group’s Chief Executive Phillip Ritchie. “But this is one of the fairest refusals that I have come across and it does give us some scope to speak to the Council further and examine ways of achieving our objective of building an iconic hotel development on the Riverside in Dundee.

Further discussions are due to take place to establish if there is a way forward to allow the Lomond Group to realise its ambitions.
