Master Planning
There is an increasing commitment in local and national government, to require developments to demonstrate and implement better levels of design and layout in order to create more attractive environments, which are also more sustainable in the broadest meaning of the word. This includes wide ranging factors such as social inclusivity, the longevity and adaptability of buildings, accessibility and ease of use, and the drive to reduce any impact on the environment and particularly climate change.
It is now necessary to answer these disparate challenges, not only by accommodating them within our developments, but to communicate in detail how we will do this at the earliest stages of the development process.
In order to do this we are increasingly reliant on Masterplanning, or other closely related processes such as Design and Access Statements, Design Briefs or Building Codes. All these documents are essentially rooted in analysis and understanding of a site, its environment and the local community, and then developing a proposed end use which relates to and is informed by that understanding. This basic process is something that is applicable at almost all scales, from an individual house plot in a sensitive location, right up to strategic land allocations and settlement expansions which may include thousands of houses and other mixed uses developed over many years.
Like most of our activities it involves drawing on the multi-disciplinary talents of our professional team, but crucially culminates in the ability to graphically present our results in a clear and legible fashion so that they can be understood easily by the relevant public and professional audiences.
Over many years of experience we have developed the skills necessary to produce such documents which effectively communicate our development aspirations. A sample of these documents can be seen here….
Rising to these challenges will ultimately create better quality and unique places which are more attractive to our end customers.
